About Me

I am an author, writer, teacher, workshop leader, storyteller and speaker. I have taught memoir, writing from life, and creative nonfiction since 1991.

As a national board member of Story Circle Network, I am dedicated to helping women give voice to their lives through their life stories.

I have a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a doctorate in education, which means I know how to write and I know how to teach others to write. Participants say I am the kind of teacher they wished they’d had years ago, meaning I am more intent on guiding people to write with their hearts than in red-lining grammar mistakes.

I teach and facilitate adult courses, including writing classes for self-discovery and healing at the Carl Jung Educational Center in Houston, TX; Older Women’s Legacy (OWL) at Lone Star College-North Harris in Houston, TX; and memoir and life writing stories at Church Street Retreat in Navasota, TX.
